Epic Universe Unveils Monster Land

This new land at the park looks like it’s going to be phenomenal! The immersion is like nothing we’ve seen before, with every aspect of the land seemingly blended into the story perfectly.

You have to watch the video above as this will blow you away. The land includes

The Curse of the Werewolf: A family friendly spinning coaster but it contains some excellent theming

Monster Makeup Experience: Immerse yourself(or your children) in the land more by getting makeup added to you, to make you look like a monster!

Das Stakehouse: A steakhouse with steaks on stakes, what’s not to like about this? It’s also run by the familiars of vampires(like their servants I guess?).

The Burning Blade Tavern: Set inside a windmill that is literally on fire, this tavern will offer burgers, wings, bratwursts, pretzels, and beverages. It will also have characters playing Monster Hunters who will tell guests tales of their adventures.

Monsters Unchained: THIS IS THE RIDE TO BEAT ALL RIDES. It’s going to be a dark ride potentially on a scale we’ve only seen at Rise of the Resistance at Disneyland. It’s not going to rely on screens like previous universal rides but apparently contain some very state of the art animatronics.

The story of this ride is that Victoria Frankenstein has been conducting experiments on monsters and figuring out how to control them. BUT Dracula has other plans and most likely unleashes the captured monsters!

p.s. the secret word for this newsletter is vampire, reply to this email with that word and your mailing address, and i’ll send the first few responses some stuff!

Here’s a flythrough of the full land, this is different than the video above

Busch Gardens Williamsburg Sells Lochness Monster Items

Busch Gardens Williamsburg recently re-tracked a bunch of their rollercoaster, Lochness Monster. At IAAPA they showed off a piece of track that they were eventually thinking about selling. To test the waters, it appears that they started selling a keychain with a small piece of the metal from the coaster on it for $75. To see an image of it, check out the BGWFans FB page here.

Is it worth $75? I don’t think so. It’s a super small piece of metal.

With that said, they sold out. It was limited to 150 keychains and every single one sold out.

BGW has promised it would introduce future products made from the ride in the future.

With such a great response from a keychain, you can expect that any future products will command a high price. I know they might sell actual cut pieces of the track in the future and I’ll probably end up buying one.

Universal Changes Name of Starfall Racers to Stardust Racers

I havn’t covered this yet, but Universal has changed the name of their upcoming dueling coasters at Epic Universe from Starfall Racers to Stardust Racers. This is due to the lawsuit filed against them in federal court earlier in May.

Starfall Education Foundation filed a lawsuit against universal over the roller coasters name. Most likely stemming from the fact that there would be merchandise sold that included the name. Starfall Education Foundation also sells merchandise with their name on it.

In a smart move, Universal decided to changed the name rather than deal with fighting the lawsuit(that they might not win).

What does this mean? Well, nothing really. The ride hadn’t opened yet and people really didn’t get too attached to the name before Universal changed it. The new name is also close enough where nothing drastic had to change.

I do wonder though, with production times of merchandise for parks needing such a large runway, whether Universal had made any purchase orders for merchandise with the older name of Starfall Racers.

This Weeks Poll

Last week we asked you if you were willing to travel internationally to go to a theme park and 75% of you said ‘Definitely Yes’. The other 25% were either unsure about traveling internationally or would not do it.

Six Flags Unveils Mr. Six and Halloween Houses

Six Flags has brought back their ICONIC dancing Mr Six character for their new Fright Fest advertisement. And then they kill him in the video.

But in all seriousness, I love that they are bringing him back (I doubt he stays down). And Six Flags unveiled some really cool haunted houses for this years Fright Fest event. Here they are:

Stranger Things

Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Army of the Dead

Trick r Treat

The Conjuring Universe

Saw 20th Anniversary

What’s the weirdest thing about some of these mazes is that Universal has in the past created houses for some of this IP including Stranger Things, Trick r Treat, and The Conjuring Universe(I think). Does this mean that Universal will not have a Stranger Things house this year? Most likely thats the case as their Stranger Things maze last year covered the most recent season of the show. It’s unknown when the newest season of Stranger Things will be released this year.

In any case, IP helps drive a lot of traffic to Halloween events because its something people can easily connect with. Six Flags has a huge arsenal of IP that will probably make this year their biggest yet in terms of attendance.
