Six Flags Sells Off Parks, and More!

Six Flags Sells Off Multiple Parks

The long rumored sell off of some Six Flags parks has finally happened. Six Flags has announced the sale of seven amusement parks to EPR Properties for over $330 million, marking a major shift in its operational strategy just ahead of the 2026 summer season. Despite the ownership change, all affected parks are expected to remain open and honor existing passes through the year.

🎢 What Happened?

On March 5, 2026, Six Flags Entertainment Corporation revealed it is selling seven of its regional amusement parks to EPR Properties, a real estate investment firm specializing in experiential assets. The deal is valued at approximately $330–345 million.

🏞️ Parks Being Sold:

  • Michigan’s Adventure (Muskegon, MI)

  • Schlitterbahn Waterpark Galveston (TX)

  • Six Flags Great Escape (Queensbury, NY)

  • La Ronde (Montreal, Canada)

  • Six Flags St. Louis (MO)

  • Valleyfair (Minneapolis, MN)

  • Worlds of Fun (Kansas City, MO)

These parks collectively span over 1,600 acres, host 418 attractions, and draw 4.5 million annual visitors. That’s a lot of land!

đź’¬ Why Is Six Flags Selling?

Six Flags CEO John Reilly explained that the divestiture is part of a strategic move to focus capital and leadership on parks that deliver the strongest returns. The company aims to streamline operations and concentrate on its most profitable properties.

This shift reflects a broader trend in the theme park industry: prioritizing high-performing flagship locations while offloading regional parks that may require more investment or yield lower margins.

🏗️ What Happens Next?

  • Operations Continue: All seven parks will remain open for the 2026 season. Existing season passes and multi-park access will be honored.

  • New Management: EPR Properties will partner with Enchanted Parks and La Ronde Operations Inc. to manage the parks, aiming for a “smooth and seamless transition”.

  • Guest Experience: No immediate changes are expected in day-to-day operations, attractions, or guest services.

đź’¬ My thoughts:

This is very funny as these parks were not sold for all that much. All these parks are profitable(most likely) with very little additions needed to keep guests coming back again and again. EPR just has to sit on these parks for maybe 10 years to recoup their investment. At the same time, Six Flags still doesn’t have a lot of money to pay off their outstanding debt balance. They did get some, but not enough if you ask me. They also lose out on some consistent profit every year now.

For having just merged together, the new Six Flags company seems to be shedding a ton of their parks which I thought they wanted as part of their merger??? It just leads me to believe that this deal didn’t go exactly as planned with some of the efficiencies they promised during their merger pitch.

Kings Island Auctioning Off Boo Blasters Props

Kings Island is selling most of the props from their Boo Blasters dark ride that is being replaced with Phantom Theater which opens sometime this year. Some of the items start bidding at just $10! Others that most likely will be more popular or are bigger, start at $50.

In the description of the listings it does mention that these should be considered inoperable when you buy them as some of the data/electrical/pneumatic supply connections were severed when they were removed.

The auction opens in approximately 1 week! If you’ve ever wanted to own a piece of theme park history (aside from the rollercoaster wheels we sell), then this is your chance!

Universal Hollywood Reveals Coaster Car Designs

These new car designs have been hidden for quite some time behind wraps meant to conceal their true designs.

I can say that these designs look very good and exactly like you would expect from the movie. I think of course I will be most excited to get in Dom’s Dodge Charger.

This new coaster, opening sometime this year, will reach speeds of up to 72 mph and feature ride vehicles that will rotate throughout the ride based on programmed sequences.

It will be the best Fast & Furious ride they’ve come out with so far!
