A Theme Park On An Oil Rig Is Being Developed

The world’s first theme park on an Oil Rig will be opening in 2025. It will open in the Persian Gulf, and will be approximately 40 kilometers from the nearest land in Saudi Arabia. It’s being funded by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia and could cost up to $5 billion to create. Described as the World’s first tourism destination inspired by offshore oil platforms, this park will be an incredible sight to see.

May is going to be a great month for roller coaster enthusiasts! With a ton of new coasters opening up as well as a brand new theme park, it’s going to be an exciting month. Check out the list below of the coasters we know are opening soon!

Sea World Orlando: Pipeline The Surf Coaster

One of the most unique rides opening this month, this brand new stand up coaster officially opens on May 27th. Passholders though can get on it starting May 12th. This stand up coaster starts with an immediate launch and takes guests up to a max height of 110 feet. The ride reaches speeds up to 60 mph and has a track length of 2950 feet.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg: Darkoaster

This all completely indoor roller coaster will open on May 19th. Once again, passholders can get on it starting May 11th. This coaster is more of a family ride and has a minimum height requirement of only 48 inches. It will contain 4 launches, have over 2400 feet of track, and be North America’s first indoor straddle coaster.

Dollywood: Big Bear Mountain

An absolutely massive coaster, Big Bear Mountain is set to open on May 12th to the public. Passholders that purchased their pass last year can get on the roller coaster starting May 8th. This will be the longest coaster at Dollywood with 3,990 feet of track. It will be a family coaster with a minimum height requirement of just 39 inches. Guests will reach speeds up to 48 mph and heights of up to 66 feet tall.

World’s Largest Indoor Theme Park Title Changes Hands

Chimelong Marine Science Park, located in Zhuhai, China is set to become the new largest indoor theme park in the world. It will be over 4 million square feet in size. Set to open sometime in July, this is going to be an absolutely unit of a theme park. Technically its probably more animal park than theme park. It would be similar to Sea World here in the United States. Originally set to open in 2021, the construction of the park has hit a lot of delays. This will actually be the second gate at the park which already has a theme park operating right next door to this building.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas Launches Esports Gaming Campus

This new expansion adds 50 high tech custom built pc’s to the park as well as a large 1,601 seat theater that can we used for esports events for guests to watch the game. Speaking of games, guests can play the latest titles on all of the machines. It will include a Coke VIP lounge on the second floor.

Mall Of America To Get New Themed Water Park

The all new indoor water park at Mall of America will be called Mystery Cove. It will be 320,000 square feet and located within the mall. It will have a 1400 ft lazy river, wave pool, and a ton of water slides.

Trains Have arrived at ‘Lightning’ at Furuviksparken

Vekoma has delivered the first trains of the new coaster ‘Lightning’ at Furuviksparken, a theme park in Sweden. This new coaster is set to open sometime in 2023 and will reach speeds of up to 46 miles per hour and have a track length of 1400 feet. It will be suitable for almost the whole family.

T3 at Kentucky Kingdom Permanently Closes

Kentucky Kingdom recently announced that their T3 roller coaster would be permanently retired immediately. It had run for nearly 30 years in the park. T3 is/was an inverted Vekoma roller coaster, otherwise known as an SLC. These have gotten a notoriously bad reputation for the painful head trauma of hitting the restraints from side to side.

Six Flags Magic Mountain Announces The States Largest Solar Energy Project

Six Flags recently announced that they would be building a 12.37 megawatt solar carport at Six Flags Magic Mountain. In case you havn’t been to the park, their parking lot is literally huge and feels like the surface of the sun during the summer. This new carport will cover the main guest parking lot and hopefully will provide a ton of shade as you walk to the park, as well as keep your car cooler for when you return. This will be the largest single-site commercial renewable energy project in California.

Jason Momoa To Be New Chief Island Officer Of Yas Island

Jason Momoa recently took over as the face of Yas Island, the attraction hub in Abu Dhabi. Kevin Hart was the previous Chief Island Officer but only stayed in the position for a year.

What does this mean for Jason? It means a fairly large paycheck and he’ll be able to do all the fun attractions that Yas Island has to offer. It’s honestly not a bad job, Yas Island please hire me next!
