Big Bear Mountain Opened!

Me in front of Big Bear Mountain!

I was invited to the opening of this as a member of the media and let me tell you, this is a world class family roller coaster! It has a great minimum height making it available for many children to ride. Speaking of ride, the coaster was incredibly smooth and wasn’t too fast. It’s literally the perfect speed and layout for the family.

If you were expecting a fast adrenaline coaster then sadly it’s not that. I think currently the next project or two will be geared more towards the family instead of thrill seekers. I believe that because of the failure of Lightning Rod(it always is breaking down), Dollywood has been leaning towards becoming a more family centric park.

Opening Date Set For World of Frozen at Hong Kong Disneyland

In case you were not aware, Hong Kong Disneyland is getting a new themed land set to the world of Frozen. It will open with two rides, one a small rollercoaster with sleds as the vehicles and another a boat ride. It’s unknown how similar the boat ride will be to the Frozen ride at Epcot but my guess is that it will be different.

If you havn’t been to Hong Kong Disneyland yet, now might be the time to start booking a trip sometime in November or later. It’s a really fun park and most employees there spoke English when we visited prior to Covid.

From The Editor

It wasn’t a great week last week for sleep so I missed the newsletter ☹️ . Luckily, I’m feeling more rested to write up this weeks theme park newsletter! The biggest story this week is that Pipeline at Sea World Orlando doesn’t suck and a lot of people actually like this new stand up coaster! It was met with rave reviews when it opened last Thursday.

This newsletter is lacking a little bit and I apologize for that. We just hit 10,000 subscribers for this newsletter so I’m really going to step up my game over the next few weeks(if my baby allows it) and flush out this newsletter with some sweet formats and finally fix the referral system!

I’m introducing a new section near the bottom of quick Youtube videos that might interest you. I watch a ton of theme park content every week and some of it is pretty neat!

Last week poll results: Last week I asked what roller coaster opening this year you were looking forward to the most. The answer: A Tie. Big Bear Mountain at Dollywood was tied with Flying Viking at Adventureland.

New Indoor Park Being Built In The Netherlands

An artist rendering of the park

The European Coaster Club broke the news of a new indoor theme park being built in the Netherlands. It’s name is Bommel Wereld (Please don’t ask me how to pronounce it.) The park will be about Meneer Bommel and Tome Poes who are classic cartoons of the area. It will include the ‘magic atmostphere of Rommeldam, the Black Mountains and the Dark Trees Forest’. The park will be 9000 square meters in size and looks like it is packed with a ton of interested rides both dry and wet!

After being to the Middle East, I think indoor parks are going to be the future of the theme park industry. They allow a temperature controlled environment, are not affected by the weather, and can be open earlier/later if the demand is there.

How Many Parks Are You Going To This Year?

We'll share the results next week!

  • Adam The Woo reported that The Holy Land Experience is starting to get torn down

  • The Sidemen played a game of Hide & Seek at Motiongate Dubai. What’s interesting to note of their video is that the Dreamworks building was blurred out and not included at all.

  • The on ride POV for the new Batman Gotham City Escape roller coaster has been released. This new ride is at Parque Warner in Spain.
