Iron Menace, Fire In The Hole, and So Much More News!

Dorney Park Announces Iron Menace

Dorney Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania recently announced a brand new dive coaster called Iron Menace. This announcement has been long over due as the parks last coaster addition was back in 2008 when they opened Possessed, an intamin inverted roller coaster.

This new coaster will be made by B&M and seems decently themed. The ride seems like it’s going to have a themed queue. We’ve already gotten hints at some of the theming.

In the early 1900s, Scottish businessman Hiram S. McTavish opened McTavish Steel Mill, a direct competitor to Bethlehem Steel Company. Greed dictated McTavish’s every move, and he was well known to prioritize profits above people.

With an eye on maximizing output, McTavish created a massive hauler he dubbed “Iron Menace,” a device the steel industry had never seen. The rail transporter moved workers and ore at record volumes and dizzying speeds.

Suddenly the greedy steel baron mysteriously disappeared—no one knows how or where. Shortly after, McTavish Steel Mill closed. All that remains today are the mill’s decrepit shell, rusty relics and wild tales of the owner’s whereabouts.

Here are some ride stats

  • 95 degree drop

  • 152 max height

  • 64 mph

  • 4 inversions

  • 2,169 feet in lenght

Silver Dollar City Announces Fire in the Hole 2

Silver Dollar City just announced their newest roller coaster, Fire In the Hole. It will be the largest indoor coaster in the midwest. It will open sometime in 2024 and will be in the new ‘Fire District’ that the park is creating.

There will be 3 drops and one of which will include a water splashdown. The ride does seem pretty similar to the original but this one will be located in a brand new building built from the ground up. It’s heavily rumored that RMC will be building the coaster as their work vehicles have been seen around the new building. This new ride will cost $30 million according to the park.

Mr. Beast Rents Out Full Theme Park for a Video

Mr. Beast has made videos about theme parks in the past and he’s at it once again. This time he rented out a full theme park just so he could hang out inside the park with PewDiePie. They both did several of the coasters there and looked pretty freaked out. If you want to check out their video, click the button down below. The theme park section happens about halfway through the video.

We Visited The Coolest Family Owned Theme Park, Lost Island

I was expecting a fun little park when I was first planning our trip to Lost Island but I was blown away by what I saw. This park has more going for it than most theme parks in the world. The owners have created probably the most immersive theme park there is. There’s so much history they created for this park.

Hell, they even created a brand new language for the park. What other theme park can you say has done that? I can’t think of any. They also have a variety of characters that wander the park, immersing guests in the lore and helping them learn the language as they walk.

The park isn’t all about lore, it also has some fun rides. Matugani, probably their number 1 attraction is a legit fun rollercoaster that came from Sweden’s Liseberg park. The next best ride at the park is Volkanu which is a crazy cool dark ride that probably rivals something you’d see at Universal or Disney.

If you want to learn more about this park, check out our vlog below. If you have some extra vacation time this summer, consider checking out the park. Or plan a trip for next year!

Six Flags Announces $200 Million Investment

During their earnings call today, Six Flags announced they were going to invest $200 million into their parks in 2024. This would include multiple new rides as well as other improvements.

Also during the call, it was announced that the year to date attendance was up by 4%. Six Flags had also paid down a substantial amount of their debt ($94 million) during the second quarter. That is a huge number but from what I recall they are in debt a few billion.

This year, total capital expenditures will fall between $170-$180 million. We saw multiple new rides being built including several family coasters throughout their chain of parks.

What kind of rides might we see? I have my fingers crossed for more dark rides as the chain is lacking when it comes to indoor attractions. But then again, when it comes to selling season passes, insane new roller coasters can do the trick!

From The Editor

Another week, another round of brand new coaster openings. This past week we saw some amazing new coasters, including one for Dorney Park which hasn’t received a new coaster in forever!

Speaking of coaster credits, I may have purchased an annual pass to Legoland Florida to just ride 1 coaster before it closes on the 16th for good, Flight Training. I’ll have the youtube video for that trip hopefully next week.

Snoopy’s Soapbox Racers Coming to Kings Island

Kings Island recently announced the addition of a new family vekoma boomerang. It’s similar to the Good Gravy coaster we talked about last week. There are no inversions in this coaster. It will reach speeds of up to 36mph, a max height of 73.5 ft and be roughly 672 feet in length.

It’s not going to break any records but Kings Island needed another family coaster at their park and this is the perfect ride for that. This new coaster will be part of a Camp Snoopy expansion project happening at the park.

Lochness Monster Gets New Track at Busch Gardens Williamsburg

BGWFans on Twitter posted an image of some new track arriving at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. They also said that the 2024 plans for the park included extensive renovation for Lochness Monster. There will be significant track replacement and other attraction upgrades for the ride.

This is incredible news because even though I’ve been to the park twice, I have yet to be on this ride so I’m glad they arn’t destroying it so I still have a chance at this coaster credit. It’s also great news because this coaster is one of the most iconic coasters because of it’s interlocking loops. It’s just a gorgeous coaster!

Last week we asked if you were going to IAAPA this year. 50% of you said no, 20% said yes, and 30% said maybe. IAAPA is the theme park event of the year for the United States. It’s where major coaster manufacturers from around the world will be unveiling their latest rollercoaster, ride model, etc. I think it’s worth it to go to!

Moosehorn Falls Coming to Canada’s Wonderland

Canada’s Wonderland is getting a brand new water ride for their waterpark. This wild raft ride will have riders drop down a 42 foot tall wall before cresting on the opposite side, and then sliding back down again.

This isn’t the most insane ride. It kind of feels like a ‘filler’ addition to the park. It’s not going to cost a lot to make but still keeps guests interested in renewing their passes. Because this new attraction won’t cost that much, it could mean that the park is saving up money for a huge addition in 2025.

Fury 325 is Open Again

After just a month of being closed, Fury 325 is once again open for riders! The state of North Carolina recently gave the park the green light to re-open the ride after doing a thorough inspection of the ride and finding the repairs satisfactory.

To me it is still crazy that the park was able to get this ride fixed so fast. It will make for a good case study in the future. At the end of the day it comes down to money. Fury 325 is the key attraction at the park and from what I saw in our Carowinds group, many people cancelled their vacations or just stopped visiting the park because Fury was closed.

Carowinds was probably losing out on hundreds of thousands of dollars because of its closure. It was in the parks best interest to get it fixed and fast.

Europa Park Gives us a Voltron Poster

Europa Park recently released the poster for Voltron, their brand new roller coaster opening next year. This coaster will have 7 inversions, be 1,385 meters in length, four launches, and be themed to Nikola Tesla.

Europa Park is located in the southern par of Germany and is rated as one of the best theme parks of Europe.
