Coaster Demolished, Ride up for Sale, and more!

Tidal Twister Demolished

Coasterhub on Instagram recently posted a video from an anonymous source that shows the remains of Tidal Twister at Sea World San Diego. This ride was voted as the fourth best new family attraction back in 2019 from the golden ticket awards. So what went wrong?

The ride has a lot of mechanical problems and a ton of downtime. Also, it’s load time was pretty slow. The one thing it has going for it, is that it doesnt take up that much space and hopefully didn’t cost an arm and a leg to install.

Here’s a POV of the ride in case you want to see what it looked like when it did run.

Will we miss this ride? I will, i thought it was pretty unique with nothing else like it on the market. Most people will not miss it and if the park puts something really cool in it’s place, it will be forgotten quite easily. The secret word for this newsletter is ‘Dance’, reply back to this newsletter with that word and we will send the first few responses some stickers and other cool stuff!

Theme Park Stock Watch

From the last 5 days of stock changing as of Monday Night

Disney stock seems to be getting hit hard as of late. It’s stock is the lowest its been in 5 years, and that is including the steep drop it had because of the COVID lockdowns! Why is this happening to Disney? There’s a couple reasons but one of the biggest is Disney+. It’s been burning money. In fact, there was the recent scandal of the company trying to hide losses from Disney+ in their television division.

Disney is also set on potentially acquiring the other 33% of Hulu that comcast owns sometime next year. That deal could potentially cost Disney roughly $9 billion dollars! What does Disney hope to get from Hulu? It gives Disney the option to have advertisers reach their audiences, bringing in additional revenue. It will also allow them to bundle Hulu with Disney+ and I believe ESPN, which helps them upcharge customers.

We’re going to be posting additional coloring pages on our Patreon account! If you like our coloring pages we’ve created so far definitely consider subscribing to our patreon account where you can get more for free AND it helps support this newsletter!

Also, do you have any questions you have always wanted to ask a ride manufacturer? I’ll be going to IAAPA soon and can ask your questions! Last year I got a few good questions from everyone, this year I hope to double the amount of questions you send me!

The Orlando Free Fall Is Up For Sale

The 430 foot tall drop tower is going up for sale. It’s been closed for over a year now and the local operator has said they would not reopen it after the death of Tyre Sampson.

The ride itself was changed without the manufacturers knowledge to accommodate larger guests. In fact according to the ride manual, guests over 287 pounds should not ride. In the end, it came down to the ride owner operating the ride in an unsafe manner

Who will buy this ride? Probably no one in Florida. But there are tons of parks in the America’s that probably could operate this ride in a safe manner and far enough away from Orlando that guests won’t necessarily know this ride caused a death. Problematic rides have been moved from popular parks to smaller parks all the time.

I expect to see a park in Central or South America buying this ride for a steep discount and installing it in their park.

Last week we asked how is this newsletter doing, and a huge number of you said it’s a great newsletter 😀

Funtown SplashTown USA To Receive Gravity Group Track

The park recently posted the above photo on their social media accounts. So what does it mean? It means that their Excalibur roller coaster is getting an upgrade in track. The ride may have been a little rough and the park wants to make it a smoother and more enjoyable experience for all.

Gravity Group makes engineered precut track for wooden rollercoasters. It means that the track pieces are made precisely for each location of the ride. They are also meant to be stacked side to side of each other instead of the normal one on top of another as is seen in most wooden rollercoaster. This side to side bit is important because it makes swapping out pieces of wood easier, allowing the park to have decreased maintenance costs. The side to side method is also stronger than the traditional way, making the ride much safer!

A lot of parks have been opting to remove their wooden coasters or turn them into RMC’s. While some should be turned into RMC’s, I believe that there should always be some truly 100% wooden coasters out there for guests to enjoy and I’m glad Funtown Splashtown opted to use the Gravity Group

This Weeks Comic

This is the second part in a multi-part comic series

This week’s coloring page kind of looks like the Cinderella Castle! After this one, I think all future coloring pages will be 9:16 in size, so perfect for a typical piece of printer paper.
